IT TAKES A VILLAGE

This is all happening for a reason.

I keep telling myself.

It’s all part of a master plan.

Except, I don’t know who or what created the plan.

Everything’s going to be okay.

In our past moves, we just knew that we were heading down a path excavated just for us. Was the road sometimes a bit treacherous? Of course, it’s supposed to be. Adventures are meant to have twists and turns, with a rocky and sloped topography.

But seriously, I’m questioning the wise person who implemented the design of this mysterious endeavor. Grocery stores are weird. It takes fifteen minutes to drive four miles. And don’t get me started on the amount of money over asking price we need to bid for a house worth half the price in the first place. Ugh!

Why? And Why?

You see, I started getting pretty down on myself until a little bulb of enlightenment exploded over head. In the month of living in a hotel, I’ve come to value community living. There’s something unique about a group of unlike individuals that can live in a small area of a hotel space together. We’re all here for various reasons. And regardless of those reasons, we see each other on a daily basis—the two pack a day smoking lady who wears a green coat no matter the temperature. There is a modern-day nuclear family with a puppy bulldog, who also is struggling to find a home (the family, not the dog). We can’t forget about the capri-wearing woman with a hound dog that looks like she wants to eat my face when my dogs get too close (the woman is the mean one. Stop blaming the dogs!).

My birthday had just passed and leading up to the big event, I once again, was feeling down. That is until my neighbors, a group of Malaysians, befriended me and joined me for a birthday barbeque at the community grill. (I understand emphasizing Malaysians sounds crude, but I’m just excited that people from a country half way around the world think I’m cool. Can you say that?) They shared a few homemade cuisines, Tom-Yam and some beef thing that looked furry, but was a spicy delicacy that paired wonderfully with our kale salad. We had cupcakes, shish-kabobs, potato salad, and of course, wine.

Things are looking up.

Since my birthday party, we found a new temporary home in an apartment complex with acres upon acres of land. Everyone is clean, and I must say, that by residing so close to the pool…well…shall we say, the people watching is top notch.

            More questionable adventures to come…
