We’re thirteen days into the New Year. How are those resolutions coming along?
Before we delve into how upset you are about eating that donut, or starting to smoke again, or how you’ve already cursed out Karen for taking your sticky notes, or why you need to explain how that fifth of whiskey got there, let’s talk about me.
I am still perfect with my resolution. You heard right. I had one, just one resolution and I am still holding tight to its longevity throughout the all-seeing, 2020.
Shall we walk through my successfully planned journey? I think we shall.
Every year, for the past fifteen years, I have made outlandish resolutions. Go big or go home, right? Usually the top of my list is, make a million dollars. In all my saddened misjudgment of New Year’s resolutions, I must confess that this objective has yet to transpire. The good news is, I have finally figured out why I’m still an average income recipient.
I’ve never set the foundation for how this transaction would occur. To quote my writer friend Savy Leiser, “Law of Attraction? Try more like, Law of Action.” What a simple thought that many of us have never grasped. If only I’d created a way in which to make that million, maybe you wouldn’t be reading this right now. Or better yet… Mind Blowing Thought…maybe you would be paying to read my writing.
So, you ask, how has this new-found ancient idea changed this year verses the last fifteen?
My new vision, in 20/20, is to pay attention to signs. And not the imaginary neon-flashing, arrow-pointing sign with gleaming lights shining down from the heavens indicating what I thought was my new adventure. I used to believe that the glorious signs made by angels would point to the path that had never been traveled before. Turned out, that outrageously gaudy sign that I visualized was only indicating the path ahead was full of fifty-foot foliage and I never received my hand-crafted machete in the mail.
This is why I have positively altered my thought process by not only examining my environment for opportunities; but, more importantly, to take action from that observation. Let me give you an example.
I received my first sign when we were on the brink of a new calendar year and my vision was improving to a perfect 20/20. She sat with us at a community dinner gathering and after much conversation and a few glasses of wine later, it turned out she worked in an industry I’ve been researching as a new career.
What are the odds? Is this one of those signs sent from above? Aliens?
We exchanged information and with fingers crossed, my end-of-the-month factory tour will lead to bigger and better things. Who knows? The extraterrestrials with large banners know.
Now, let’s be honest, it’s possible nothing may come out of this new friendship other than a tour and thanks for stopping by. I’m not asking for a million dollars here. Kinda. But the point is that I saw a sign and have followed through with an opportunity within my grasp. Of course, I’d love to learn and advance in a new profession, but we’re only thirteen days into the new year. What’s the rush? I got all year!
On the other hand, if you feel like following my advice, please be warned…there will be times when dismissing a sign is acceptable. For instance, and to the man at the grocery store today that asked me to take a nap with him, the answer is, NO!
Happy New Year to All
Today, Friday the 13th falls on a Monday this month,
and also marks my one-year anniversary of this blog.
It’s awesome readers like you that keep me writing.
Thank you!
Awesome post! Keep up the great work! 🙂
Happy anniversary! New year, new adventures! (Just not napping with strangers…that was a sign to get the heck out of the grocery store, maybe?)
HA! and thank you!
Love that you quote Savy in this… I like that you noticed the sign… hope it pans out with some sort of opportunity xo
Thank you, Nancy 🙂
